Awakening to the Movement of Life
A Continuum Movement Workshop
taught by Robin Becker
"Movement is something we are, not something we do." - Emilie Conrad, founder of Continuum Movement
All life, including the human body, has been shaped by the movement of water. Continuum Movement is an exploration of the properties and movement of water as it shapes and forms life both within the body and the larger world. At its essence, Continuum is a study of the body as a fluid system constantly shaping itself anew.
In Continuum, the body is understood as a boundless process of fluid movement rather than form; as a coalescence of energy connected to all other living processes through the resonance of fluid systems. As we engage the primary arcing, spiraling and undulating movements of our biology, we become conscious of our dynamic and intimate participation with all of life. Ancient realms of possibility, innovation, and creation are accessed in the practice of Continuum. The body is experienced as a fluid planetary process through which the underlying unity and unfolding mystery of life can inform and guide us. As human bodies, we can become more aware and responsive to the endless possibilities of life emerging, expanding and manifesting as ourselves.
In this workshop, Robin will offer the basic principles and practices of Continuum Movement. She weaves her expertise and knowledge of Continuum Movement together with her lifelong study of the body and physical expression through dance and movement improvisation.
Continuum Movement is appropriate and safe for ALL levels of mobility. No previous movement or dance experience is required.

The Body: Our Living Resource
A Continuum Movement Workshop
taught by Robin Becker
"We do not live on the earth, we are the earth." - Sister Miriam MacGillis
From the formation of galaxies to the pulsing cells of the human body, all life forms share the fundamental movement motif of spiraling fluid systems. Made primarily of water, our bodies are liquid crystalline structures designed to receive, carry and transmit vibration. In Continuum Movement, the body is understood as a boundless process of fluid movement rather than form. Continuum provides a context in which we can expand our experience of embodiment while exploring the nature of the body as an evolving planetary process intimately connected to all life.
In this time of advanced technology and extraordinary electronic global communications, it is very easy to overlook the living intelligence of the body. When we offer attention to the fluid inner landscape of the body, we begin to experience through sensation that our bodies are in constant rapport and interaction with all other fluid bodies in the universe far beyond what we commonly consider to be the physical boundary of the body. We begin to sense how our body is dynamically engaged with all life and how the continual shaping and reshaping of life processes within us contribute to the manifestation of the desires, movements, and thoughts we express. We begin to experience ourselves as a creative process of continuous unfolding.
We cultivate a deep and nourishing sense of belonging to life as we recognize the dimensions and infinite expressions of creation emerging and evolving as our embodied beings every moment of our lives.
In this workshop, Robin weaves her expertise and knowledge of Continuum Movement together with her lifelong study of the body and physical expression through dance and movement improvisation.
The workshop begins with an evening introduction to Continuum that is required if one is new to Continuum and optional if one has had experience with Continuum. The workshop will culminate in an ‘all-nighter,' a time of silence, during which we move and rest in the deep listening and resonance of the group.
This movement practice is appropriate and safe for everyone at ALL mobility levels. No previous movement or dance experience is required.

A Lineage of Love
Retreat in the Body
taught by Robin Becker
"We do not live on the earth, we are the earth." - Sister Miriam MacGillis
From the formation of galaxies to the pulsing cells of the human body, all life forms share the fundamental movement motif of spiraling fluid systems. Made primarily of water, our bodies are liquid crystalline structures designed to receive, carry and transmit vibration. In the Sufi tradition, the divine is understood to be love, the lover, and the beloved. All of creation is considered to be a manifestation of the divine. We can also consider our bodies, the capacities through which we experience life, to be manifestations of divine love and the living carrier of an ancient planetary lineage.
Many of us share the longing to deeply embody love and manifest our ideals. In this time of advanced technology and extraordinary electronic global communications, it is very easy to overlook the pulsing vibrant intelligence of the body, and how life is revealed moment by moment through the direct sensory experience of our embodiment.
In this retreat, we will work with the practices and perspectives of Continuum Movement, in which the body is understood as a boundless process of fluid movement rather than form. When we offer attention to the fluid landscape of our bodies, we begin to experience that our bodies are in a constant rapport and resonant exchange with all other fluid bodies in the universe far beyond what we commonly consider to be the physical boundary of our bodies. Dancing within our form is a mysterious mix of the tangible and the intangible. All the physical and non-physical dimensions of our being are known to us through the sensitive capabilities and awareness of our bodies. We cultivate a deep and enriching sense of belonging to life as we recognize our essential participation in the life of the planet that is emerging, expanding and unfolding as ourselves.
In our week together, there will be time for reflection and silence. We will be moving both individually and in groups. We will also spend time in Nature exploring our connection to the infinite forms of life that embrace, inform and nourish us.

Introduction to Continuum Movement:
Entering the Stream of Life
Taught by Robin Becker
Authorized Continuum Teacher
All life, including the human body, has been shaped by the movement of water. Continuum Movement is an exploration of the properties and movement of water as it shapes and forms life both within the body and the larger world. At its essence, Continuum is a study of the body as a fluid system constantly shaping itself anew. The body is understood to be a planetary process through which the underlying unity and unfolding mystery of life can inform and guide us.
Through engaging in the primary arcing, spiraling and undulating movements of our biology, we become conscious of our dynamic engagement and intimate participation with all of life. A sense of great renewal and restoration is experienced as we join with the nature of our fluid being. Continuum Movement awakens our capacity to move freely, feel deeply and respond with ease to life's unfolding circumstances.
In this workshop, we will explore the basic principles and practices of Continuum. Using breath, sound and movement, we will initiate personal movement explorations in the supportive atmosphere and presence of a group.
Engaging in Continuum supports and informs all other movement practices whether one is a student of yoga, nature, general fitness, body work, or life. This work is appropriate and safe for everyone at ALL mobility levels. No previous movement or dance experience is required.
The Artistry of Embodiment

A Continuum Movement Workshop
taught by Robin Becker
"Movement is something we ARE, not something we do." Emilie Conrad, founder of Continuum Movement
We have all been given the gift of embodiment through which we are able to experience life. How we listen and offer attention to the sensory language of our bodies affects the way in which we perceive the world. All life forms including our bodies have been shaped by the movement of water, and in Continuum, the body is understood as a boundless planetary process that is constantly unfolding. Similar to the way overlapping and interpenetrating waves move on the surface of water, all communication within the body takes place through the fluid dynamics of the wet world within us. The practice of Continuum Movement offers a context through which we can broaden our experience of embodiment.
As we explore the body from the perspective of Continuum, we find living within our form a mysterious mix of the tangible and the intangible. In the same way that an artist meets the unknown and learns to trust an intuitive sense about the whisper of a new form, we begin to tangibly sense how our body shapes, contributes, and participates in the desires, movements, and thoughts we express. Through the explorations of Continuum Movement, the way in which we offer attention to ourselves begins to resemble the approach of an artist who is deeply respectful of his or her own materials, and has a passionate interest in the unknown forms emerging from within. We gain resources as we recognize the dimensions and infinite possibilities of life emerging and unfolding through our embodied being.
The workshop begins with an evening introduction to Continuum that is required if one is new to Continuum. This movement practice is appropriate and safe for everyone at ALL mobility levels. No previous movement or dance experience is required.

The Body: Our Evolving Future
A Continuum Movement Workshop
taught by Robin Becker
"Movement is something we ARE, not something we do." Emilie Conrad, founder of Continuum Movement
The body continually offers us teachings of transformation. In this workshop, we will investigate how our physical bodies and the way in which we move are the expression of unfolding life deeply linked to ancient processes. We will work with the practice of Continuum Movement in which the body is understood as a boundless evolving planetary process.
All life forms including our bodies have been shaped by the movement of water, and similar to the way overlapping and interpenetrating waves move on the surface of water, all communication within the body takes place through the movement and changing dynamic forms of the fluid systems within us.
When we take the time to offer attention to the fluid terrain of the body, we begin to sense how our body is continually shaping and reshaping life processes within itself. Our bodies are contributing to and participating in the manifestations of the desires, movements, thoughts and forms we express. Through movement our primary engagement and essential participation in life can be experienced, and we begin to recognize the endless possibilities and dimensions of life emerging, expanding and unfolding as ourselves.

The Artistry of Embodiment
A Retreat in the Body

"The purpose of the body is to experience life fully." - Hazrat Inayat Khan
We have all been given the gift of embodiment, and it is through the sensations of the body that we are able to experience life. How we listen and offer attention to the sensory language of our bodies influences the way in which we perceive ourselves and all life events.
In this retreat we will be working with the practices of Continuum Movement that offer a context through which we can expand our experience of embodiment. In Continuum, the body is understood as a boundless planetary process of fluid movement that is deeply linked to all life. All life forms including our bodies have been shaped by the movement of water, and similar to the way overlapping and interpenetrating waves move on the surface of water, all communication within the body takes place through the movement and fluid dynamics of the wet world within us.
As we explore the body from this perspective, we find living within our form a mysterious mix of the tangible and the intangible. In the same way that an artist meets the unknown and learns to trust an intuitive sense about the whisper of a new form, we begin to tangibly sense how our body shapes, contributes, and participates in the desires, movements, and thoughts we express. We begin to experience ourselves as a creative process of continuous unfolding. We cultivate a deep and nourishing sense of belonging to life as we recognize the dimensions and infinite expressions of creation emerging and unfolding as our embodied beings.
Throughout the week there will be time for reflection and silence. We will be moving and dancing together both individually and in groups. We will also move into Nature exploring our profound connection to all creation as it embraces, informs and guides us.

Vanishing Art:
An Intimate Festival of What May Be
A gathering of artists and friends to be held August 24-28, 2011 at the Abode of the Message in New Lebanon, New York.
The Vanishing Art Festival will gather a community of visual and performance artists, as well as poets, philosophers, and thinkers of all kinds, to explore and practice the "poeticization" of life and art. The aim is to quicken the return of a more hermetic, cosmological, and magical imagination to life's meaning and to the culture of art.
Many well-known and established artists from across the region and nation plan to participate, including Robert Kelly, Dorothea Rockburne, David Levi Strauss, Carolee Schneemann, Drew Dellinger, Wendy Tremayne, Phong Bui, Raymond Foye, Sterrett Smith, Charles Stein, Bisan Toron, Fred Johnson, Robin Becker, Yuval Ron, Yakov Rabinovich, Meryl Gross, Charlotte Mandell, George Quasha, Susan Quasha and Pir Zia Inayat-Khan. Christopher Bamford and Peter Lamborn Wilson will host.
All art—indeed all sensory perception—vanishes. Music, fragrance—these clearly disappear. Beauty, too, is always disappearing, drawing us from the visible-sensory form to the invisible-suprasensory beyond. In this sense, all art disappears into the greater whole of which it is a fragment. The work you see, touch, or hear is and is not the work you see, touch, or hear. The work always also leads beyond itself. As William Blake, catching the bird in flight and flying with it, famously put it: "I see through my eyes, not with them."
The festival will explore the vanishing nature of art and its many hidden meanings through salons, poetic actions, social sculpture, music and a variety of interactive means.
We believe it is time for art to return to the world of consciousness, cosmos, and imagination—to return to its home-place where human life and spirit, nature and cosmos, science and religion intersect.
